Rosea Corona и композиция «Метаморфоз» Апулея (Касьян Мария Сергеевна)
The paper considers the rose-motif and its metaphorical meanings for
the structure of the famous Apuleius’ novel “Metamorphoses”. The crown
of roses has in this novel not only symbolic sense, but also multilevel
(sacral, religious, mythological and, finally, literary) connotations. Before
Lucius the Ass has an opportunity to eat the roses that will restore him to
his human form, the roses appear as the attribute of Venus and her
“substitutes”, and have various images: as proper roses in a garden, as
garlands or crowns. But after the metamorphosis of Lucius, they become
Isis-flowers and appear in the form of a crown (corona). The paper
concludes that the Apuleius’ novel has a ring structure, and the rose-crown
(corona rosea) image is the “key” to this construction.
