The paper deals with the use of disyllabic comparative conjunctions budto, slovno and točno ‘like’ in the texts of fifteen Russian poets. I study the frequency of their use in cases where these conjunctions are mutually interchangeable and show that their total frequency increases after the end of the Golden Age of Russian poetry (approx.. 1st third of the 19th century). In the beginning of the 19th century, budto was close to becoming the default disyllabic comparative conjunction; however, it was later superseded by slovno and točno. The preference for one of these is governed by the poet’s individual style.
