Культурно-исторический контекст древнерусской литературы XI-XIII вв.
The study of Old Rus' princes' marital ties suggest that in XI-XIII centuries there were social groups in Rus' that did not do translations but were able to get acquainted with the foreign-language literature of the time. It allows to add new notes in understanding the logic of the cultural history of pre-Mongol Rus'.
It is known that Old Rusian chronicles were not only extended, but also inetnsively edited by the newcoming generations of bookmen. Usually the reasons for editing of text are searched amongst the political circumstances of the time. However, changing approaches to actual theological questions could also be the cause of text evolution. One of such was the question of the nature of suffering, on which there existed at least two views — the one of the author of so-called Načalnyj Svod of the 1090ies, and the outher of the author of Pověst Vremennykh Lět.
Reconstruction of the 11th century Rusian chronicles is a classic problem of russian history soucre studies. It can't be solved with traditional methods of source analysis such as manuscript comparison, palaeographic or codicological studies as no chronicle manuscripts of 11th century remain nowadays. There are some alternative approaches proposed in special literature, eg. analysis of contradictions in chronicle texts and chronological systems analysis, but these also aren't effective enough. However, lexicological and stylistic studies of the chronicle text allow us to make some non-trivial conclusions. Apparently our knowledge of Primary Chronicle textual history may be extended only if we use the interdisciplinary approach combining methods of history with methods of philology and liguistics.
Christianity is a missionary religion by definition. Yet, as Christianity became imperial ideology, the attitude towards "barbarians" began to change: the classical Greco-Roman perception of "other" as non-human finds its way into the concept of Christianization. The author tries to outline methods of Byzantine mission, which Byzantines themselves never theoretize upon. Orthodox Christianity lost to its spiritual rivals the Nilr valley, the Middle East, Moravia, Croatia, Abkhazia, Hungary, Lithuania, Khazaria. This book explains why.

The paper discusses the place and role of historical subjects in British popular music culture of the 1970s on the example of London based rock band the Clash. Focusing on acute contemporary themes of racism, oppression of immigrants in England, and the British colonies struggle for independence, however, musicians often turned to historical subjects. Drawing primarily scenes of national history of the former colonies, and, more broadly, the different subjects of national wars, musicians presented a critical view on the British imperial past. The paper examines how and which historical subjects were “engaged” in British punk music culture of the 1970s, and how the very statement about the past was constructed.

The interrelations between culture and economic development cause noticeable interest in the academic community in recent years, however a set of questions still remain open. In particular, there isn’t a lot of works about the interdependence of visual culture and economic practices. The paper shows the interdependence of accounting practices that ensure transparency in society, with the evolution of visual culture for the last one thousand years. Accounting history for this period is presented as a consequence of the stages which provide the increasing of transparency in economic units (or availability of information) to the actorsinterested in their activity – from owners to society in general. Visual culture is considered as set of objects suggesting their visual perception, and the technologies supporting them. Synchronism is shown between accounting revolutions and significant changes in visual culture and technologies: these are cultural innovations of the beginning of the 2nd millennium, period of the Renaissance, second half of XIX and end of the XX centuries. Joint periodization is offered for the accounting practices and visual culture, on the basis of changes in the mechanisms of transparency in society, i.e. technologies and instruments of information perception and cultural practices’ reproduction. It is shown that visual aspects and innovative technologies supporting them had the greatest impact on development of accounting from all aspects of culture, and this impact can be traced only in the context of the European culture.
Primary Rusian Chronicle's notices on what is now called Western Europe and Catholic church can be divided into three groups. The first one (which can be traced back to the first half — middle of the 11th century) shows the awareness of the differences between two existing christian confessions, the second one (which most likely belongs to the so-called Načalnyj svod) is fiiled with hatred to the western neighbours, whlie the third one (corresponding to the Povest' Vremennykh Lět) shows that a kind of reconciliation was achieved and the christianity was understood by the chroniclers of the epoch as if it hadn´t ever divided.
