At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Challenges in Building and Visualizing Isolines on Tile-Based Data Quickly and Accurately

P. 1–18.
Onyekwelu U. F., Rodriges Zalipynis R. A.

Modern web-based geospatial applications increasingly demand client-side processing of large scientific datasets. Web Tensor DBMSs (WT-DBMS) such as WebArrayDB enable browsers to receive and process raw tensor data through tile-based delivery mechanisms (such as WMTS with GeoTIFF tiles), shifting computational load from servers to clients. However, generating isolines from tile-based data presents fundamental challenges in maintaining topological consistency and geometric accuracy. This paper explores these challenges in the context of ERA5 climate reanalysis data, examining how traditional isoline construction algorithms must be adapted for incremental tile-by-tile processing. We describe the original CONREC-based algorithm that operates on complete grids, analyze why it cannot be directly applied to streaming tile data, and investigate four distinct approaches to tile-based construction: LineString-based, Polygon-based, Strip-based, and Buffer-based methods. Through systematic experimentation on ERA5 mean sea level pressure data (181×360 grid processed as 64×64 tiles), we demonstrate that each approach exhibits distinct trade-offs between boundary continuity, geometric accuracy, and visual artifact generation. Our analysis reveals that achieving both topological consistency and geometric fidelity in tile-based isoline generation remains an open challenge requiring further research.

With the escalating frequency and intensity of global wildfires, there is an urgent need for predictive models that balance accuracy with operational practicality. Building upon the TFDeepNN wildfire prediction framework of Truong et al. [1], this study develops a deep learning framework for wildfire risk assessment in Vietnam’s An Giang province, focusing on early detection ...
