Spectral Composition of Radiation from Microlaser Coupled to Waveguide
Ch. 45. P. 112–113.
We investigate the spectral composition of radiation of microdisk lasers coupled with optical waveguides. We study output spectrum and light-current characteristic of the microlaser obtained from the output edge of the optical waveguide. The microlaser demonstrated single-mode emission in extended ranges of the injection current, up to 75 mA, that are alternated with pronounced mode hoping. Such behavior, which we attribute to the laser self-heating, results in numerous kinks in the light-current characteristic. Single mode emission is kept at the same resonant wavelength in the range of pumping currents as high as 25 mA.

We demonstrate a thermo-optically tunable microlaser based on an InGaAs/GaAs quantum-dot (QD) active region employing a deformed limaçon-shaped cavity. The asymmetric geometry effectively lifts the degeneracy of high-Q whispering-gallery modes, enabling single-mode lasing. A side-mode suppression ratio exceeds 25 dB over a wide current range. Under continuous-wave electrical pumping, the device achieves a peak output power ...

The paper presents the model of a microdisk laser – photonic crystal defect waveguide coupling system. Different finite dimensions of photonic crystals are taken into account. It is shown that coupling to a photonic crystal waveguide allows to increase the output power while maintain quality factor, which is not what a traditional coupling to a ...

The power and spectral characteristics of the radiation of a semiconductor microdisk laser with a diameter of 40 µm, monolithically integrated with an optical waveguide, have been studied. To reduce absorption in the waveguide, current pumping was used. In the light–current dependence, features associated with the onset of generation at a longer-wavelength resonance are observed. ...

III-N ring microlasers on a silicon substrate with InGaN/GaN active layers emitting near 420 nm were investigated. The growth conditions and fabrication steps were optimized to realize stable lasing under optical pumping in cavities with a diameter of 6-10 um. Chemically sensitive transmission electron microscopy images indicate that InGaN layers present in form of isolated ...

Microlasers supporting whispering gallery modes attract great interest because of their potential use in photonic integrated circuits: they have size just an order of magnitude larger than their emission wavelength and exhibit good thermal and dynamic properties. It is usually assumed that in disk microlasers a whispering gallery mode of the highest azimuthal order and ...

Semiconductor microdisk lasers developed using III-V epitaxial materials are widely studied during the last decade due to the bright prospectives coming from high quality circular cavity. The threshold and spectral characteristics of microlasers have been studied in sufficient detail, but the issue of the output power of such lasers has not been addressed, just as ...

We report on microlasers based on high-quality micropillars with whispering-gallery modes lasing. The use of lowabsorbing Al0.2Ga0.8As/Al0.9Ga0.1As distributed Bragg reflectors and smooth pillar sidewalls enables whispering-gallery modes lasing by excitation and collection of emission in the pillar axis direction. Simultaneous whispering gallery modes lasing (comblike structure) is observed in the wavelength range of 930–970 nm ...
