This article deals with the problem of rendering realias in translations of socio-political media texts. For this purpose, the concepts of "realia", "media text", "socio-political information" were analyzed. As a result of the analysis of various articles of American and British media and their translations into Russian, new trends were identified in the translation of modern social realias, socio-historical realias, socio-national realias and political realias. During the research, the following problems were found when rendering realias in socio-political media texts: loss of the original meaning of a realia, non-preservation of the communicative effect, loss of implicitness. In addition, translators often tend to ignore the background knowledge of recipients, cultural characteristics of their regions, as well as the purpose of the translation. As a result of the research, strategies were identified that allow us to convey the original meaning of realia most clearly.
