The main way to mark the direct object in Russian dialects is the accusative case, but in some constructions the NP in direct object position marked by the nominative case. This case considered in the paper like case of Differential Object Marking (DOM) phenomenon, where NP in direct object position in certain conditions can be marked by the nominative case, but in “normal” conditions it marked by accusative case. The study describes this phenomenon in the North Russian dialects. Some different syntactic constructions with the nominative objects considered from the point of the DOM features: animacy, definiteness, word order, information structure, modality of predicates. In addition, the paper describes the issue of historical development of the constructions and the issue about syntactic status.
