The proceedings of the III Russian-American Scientifi c Conference “Organizational Psychology: People and Risks” contain the original research papers that explore the Conference topic through the perspectives of general and social psychology, pedagogy and applied branches of the world psychology. Researchers from a number of the Russian universities and their colleagues from Colorado State University, the USA, have contributed to the proceedings. The papers aim at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, faculties of psychology and pedagogy departments, researchers, practicing psychologists and lay people who take an eager interest in modern organizational psychology.
It is important to study the determinants of conspicuous consumption. Self-concept clarity is such internal determinant in our study. Conspicuous consumption is the spending of money on and the acquiring of luxury goods and services to display publicly economic power. The results evidence that people who have a tendency to conspicuous consumption and positive attitudes to such consumption have a high level of self-concept clarity.
Abstract. The article discusses training methods as the tools to help entrepreneurs and their teams to effectively handle identity and growth crises. The basic causes and problems of the growth and identity crises of entrepreneurs and their teams are found in the research considered in the article. Study reveals that development of the human capital of the entrepreneur and top-management team of the company positively influence on overcoming of the company crises.
Smoking is a problem, bringing signifi cant social and economic costs to Russiansociety. However, ratifi cation of the World health organization Framework conventionon tobacco control makes it possible to improve Russian legislation accordingto the international standards. So, I describe some measures that should be taken bythe Russian authorities in the nearest future, and I examine their effi ciency. By studyingthe international evidence I analyze the impact of the smoke-free areas, advertisementand sponsorship bans, tax increases, etc. on the prevalence of smoking, cigaretteconsumption and some other indicators. I also investigate the obstacles confrontingthe Russian authorities when they introduce new policy measures and the public attitudetowards these measures. I conclude that there is a number of easy-to-implementanti-smoking activities that need no fi nancial resources but only a political will.
One of the most important indicators of company's success is the increase of its value. The article investigates traditional methods of company's value assessment and the evidence that the application of these methods is incorrect in the new stage of economy. So it is necessary to create a new method of valuation based on the new main sources of company's success that is its intellectual capital.
