This project is devoted to the issue of relation between social professional status and cultural consumption. Previous research findings reveal considerable differences both in the structure of cultural consumption and in its dependence on social position. Using Eurobarometer 79.2 (Spring 2013) database I show regional characteristics of cultural participation patterns of different professional groups across Europe.
This study is concerned with interrelations between buyers and sellers formed on the illegal market of marijuana in Saint-Petersburg. Our research is based on the analysis of interviews with 11 marijuana users aged from 19 to 24. We found that people consuming drugs systematically are more included in economic transactions on the illegal market than non-regular users. Apart from that, our results show that the market has a difficult structure, which is based on social ties between its participants. But, at the same time, the existing structure allows buyers to act opportunistically and deceive their clients.
In this paper we explore the main patterns of communication of apartment buildings’ residents in St. Petersburg on social networking site “VK”. Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), we discovered discussion topics in online groups created by residents for their houses. We find that online communication in these groups has instrumental character and is aimed at solving common problems of residents. Apart from that, co-membership analysis showed that participants of groups created for fighting with in-fill constructions are more involved in various citywide activities than participants of groups created for solving internal problems of house (e.g. unsatisfactory work of the management company or leaking ceilings).
