The article presents a linguistic analysis of understatement in modern English, revealing its structural and semantic types. The article concludes that the structure of understatement can be clearly drawn, variable or conttext-related.
The paper advances the theoretical approaches to the study of mass media in the modern period of converged information space, and justified the formation of parameters of scientific knowledge in this field (as medialogy), and the need for a relevant education formats as well. The creation of modern theo retical and methodological and educational framework of mass media is a condition of the industry exit of the crisis of corporate identity and a condition of the security of the national media space.
The article considers the main problems with which a university professor or instructor meets while teaching media theory, and particularly H. Innis’ and M. McLuhan’s concepts, to students whose major is «Advertising and Public Relations» (bachelor’s level). The article describes how students cope with studying Innis and McLuhan, what tasks are given to make that process easier and more entertaining. The results of interviewing third-year students who have passed several media courses successfully are being presented. Based on ten-year experience of teaching media-related disciplines the author gives advice how to improve the courses and integrate new communication technologies into them.
The article deals with the specific features of kinetics actualized under the influence of altered states of consciousness and the peculiarities of naming units used to manifest those features in stage-directions. The author puts forward the classification of naming units of facial expressions and gestures of a person determined by psychological mechanisms of the intense emotional stress. To conclude, the author speculates about the possible implementation of the classification.
The article deals with the research of color names of anthropocentric sphere in poetic works of German poets. It represents principal trends of using color names which describe a person, in primary and secondary nomination. Figurative-expressive linguistic means (metaphor, allegory, simile, synesthesia, personification, antithesis) are of primary importance when creating various images.
