The author made an attempt to analyze the future scenarios of world trade. At the beginning of the 21st century the world trade system was negatively affected by such events as the financial crisis of 2008, the U.S. trade war with China, the WTO internal crisis associated with the stalled normal functioning of the Dispute Settlement Body, finally, the global crisis caused by the Covid - 19 pandemic. It has become clear that serious and urgent measures are needed to reform the WTO as the central body regulating international trade. In order to launch it, it is critical to bring the U.S. and Chinese positions closer together. The central problem of reform should be the transformation of the consensus mechanism into a different method of decision-making. In the current environment, given the difficulty of reaching multilateral agreements, the plurilateral format of negotiations among WTO members with access to relevant agreements, the number of participants of which will grow over time, seems promising.
