June 13-14, 2017 the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences held the 13th Russian-Spanish Seminar, organized by the Centre of Iberian Studies and titled "Europe in the period of «New Normal»: political, economic and social strategies of Russia and Spain". Touching upon a wide range of issues the participants sought to analyze the processes of transformation in Spain and Russia in the recent period of "New Normal".
Nowadays, when the traditional factors of world leadership are becoming less important, the key role on the global market play that countries, who have managed to modernize its agricultural sector and to provide the favourable positions for its activity and development. In this context the experience of the leading countries of Larin America, and especialy of Brazil, is of interest. Brazil have managed to modernize its agriculture and to become one of the key exporters of the agricultural products to the world market. This article covers the factors, which have let Brazil to transform its outdated agricultural sector to one of the most competitive branch of its economy, Brazils export by type of the product and by geography of trade and also the week points of Brazilian agricultural policy.
The paper examines the key changes that have occurred in Sino-Brazilian economic cooperation under the trade war between Beijing and Washington. The authors pay special attention to the changes in the structure of trade in Brazil and China, as well as the major trends in investment cooperation between the countries. The authors concluded that China had been able to compensate some losts caused by the trade war with the United States by adjusting the structure of trade with Brazil, as well as increasing the number of Chinese investments in the Brazilian economy, thereby offsetting the negative impact of external factors such as the trade war itself and the presidency in Brazil of J. Bolsonaro.
The article is devoted to the Venezuelan migration crisis, which broke out in 2018-2019. The reasons for the mass outflow of the population from the country traditionally perceived as the recipient of the workforce are analyzed. This phenomenon is considered in close connection with the development and decline of the oil industry of the Latin American country, the socio-political course of its governments. The influence of the outcome of the Venezuelans on the stability of the regime of Nicolas Maduro is determined. An assessment of international action to resolve the refugee problem is given.
This article is devoted to the relations between Moscow and Caracas at the period of instability in Venezuela. Author estimates the main spheres of the bilateral cooperation, analyzes their prospects. Despite the hard situation of the Bolivarian government, Moscow continues to provide financial and moral support to the regime of Nicolas Maduro. The possible coming of the opposition to power in Venezuela is able to change the nature of bilateral relations.
This article provides an overview of the approaches to explaining centrifugal tendencies in modern Spain on three cases - Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia. Certain similarities and differences in the approaches of authors dealing with problems of the regional conflict process and the Spanish model of the “state of autonomy” are demonstrated. The article also acquaints readers with the European dimension of centrifugal tendencies in Spain, which makes it possible to take into account the influence of an external factor on domestic political process in the country. The purpose of the article is to trace the explanations of centrifugal tendencies in modern Spain addressing three cases. The author concludes that centrifugal forces in modern Spain are fueled by both internal and external sources. The significance of this article is to analyze approaches that explain the dynamics of the center - regions conflict in modern Spain.

This article analyzes the social profile of the Spanish party Podemos proponents and voters. Moreover, it reveals social perspective of this party in domestic political context at the moment of 2015-2016. The emergence of new actors on the political scene has transformed the alignment of party forces that have been existed over forty years.
Cinema induced tourism has a significant global growth during last 20 years caused by the rising touristic demand. Barcelona case study shows how cinema tourism can supplement the traditional sun and city tourism. The paper demonstrates how city districts, monuments and public spaces shown in the movies and other visual art performances shape the city image. Author defines the cinema routes of Barcelona based on the most popular films and analyses how films influence the foreign touristic flow and the inner redistribution of tourists in the city.
This article presents an analysis of the reasons for the unpopularity in the country of the President of Mexico, E.Peña Nieto, occupying the post of head of state from 2012 to 2018. The author analyzes the stages and events that influenced the results of the statistics of his support among the population and led to such low ratings. The work deals with the consequences of this situation, both for the President and the political leadership of the country he heads. The article is based on material published by the Mexican media.
Author analyzed the world distribution of the key awards of 15 leading film festivals according to the FIAPF (fr. Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films) for all years of carrying out. It is not only the representation of the countries but the chronology and factors of it’s appearing among the winners. Certain Latin American award winners were examined through its plot. Also the films shot by directors-migrants are considered. The paper shows what images of countries and cities award winners translate to the world. Among the Latin American countries the majority of the awards was received by Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. The main town for the most outstanding movies of Brazil is Rio de Janeiro. The «Brazilian» plots are often developed also in the northeast of the country. In case of Argentina the action of the winner movies happens in Buenos Aires or just in certain «big city». Many Latin American movies are connected by the scene of action and a plot with a natural dominant of the region, the Amazon river. The authentic plots (highly valued by film festival juries) can be found in the works of migrant directors. One of the brightest Mexican winner movie was directed by Diego Quemada-Díaz, who migrated from Spain to Mexico. «The golden dream» narrates about three teenagers who goes from Guatemala to the USA.
Abstract. The article focuses on the first steps taken by the governments of the Latin American countries in their attempt to check and fight down the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19). A new alignment of political forces is considered in the light of the next cycle of the presidential election. Latin America has sunk into that crisis having a number of frankly weak points. These points might turn out to be a kind of “levers” starting the undermining of the political, economic and social spheres in the region. The current situation is getting complicated by the unsteady and shattered political landscape that has come to being in the region in the last years. The article exposes a forecast of the possible changes that could take place in the economic map of the region as the outcome of the actual global crisis.
The article is devoted to the achievements and failures of Mexican–American relations during the time of Barack Obama presidency in the U.S. (2009—2017). The paper considers the most important issues on the bilateral agenda, such as migration, economic cooperation, combating the illicit trafficking of drugs and weapons in the context of the application of the "soft power" policy. A comparative analysis of foreign policy conducted in this direction by the previous administration of George W.Bush (2001—2009) was also conducted.
