The article discusses the dissemination of expertise and public education in the field of medicine, pedagogy, psychology and sociology. The authors highlight the common points of organization, forms and methods and the use of such work. Considering the education of the population as part of the prophylactic work of the expert, the authors stress that nowadays the specifics of expertise dissemination are changing. In particular, specialists have little use of information technologies and the Internet for such prophylactic activities.
In the article there are attempts to follow the continuity of ideas embodied in the literary heritage of such American authors as F. Cooper, N. Hawthorne, H. Melville, and H.D. Toro, in the novels by Theodore Dreiser, for example, in «The Trilogy of Desire». There are parallels drawn between the heroes’ types, the leading topics, the key problems developed in the creative works by the analyzed authors.
In the article the issue of continuity of N. Machiavelli’s ideas by Theodore Dreiser is raised. Taking into consideration «Trilogy of Desire» and the analysis of the main character, Frank Cowperwood, it can be stated that the American author supported ideas of Machiavelli about qualities of a true leader (described in «The Prince»), about amorality of the society, and his contemplations of human fate and a possibility to resist it.

This article discusses MOOC (Massive open online courses), as a separate form of online learning that could be included in the educational process a significant number of users-students. In the paper, the author points out the main characteristics of MOOC, the features that distinguish this form of learning from a traditional education as well as the reasons for the emergence and popularization of this form of learning and skills. In this article the author examines the foreign and domestic experience of implementing MOOC-learning. As a method of this study made a theoretical analysis of the Russian and foreign scientific literature, as well as an analysis of official data submitted platforms MOOC. In this paper, the author presents the main characteristics of mass open online course (MOOC) and how it differs from other forms of learning. The history of the emergence and spread, as well as the reasons for the wide popularization of learning by means MOOC among users worldwide.
