In the present paper we analyze the correspondence in 1908 between two prominent Russian publicists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Ismail Gasprinsky and Mikhail Menshikov in the context of intensification of the military and political crisis in Europe and the unresolved «Eastern question». Furthermore, we compare their views on the necessity to form a Russian-Turkish political union.
Article examines the powerful mechanism of self-regulation in the Russian Empire 1826–1860-ies. The object of study is the information potential materials gendarmerie correspondence. His analysis allowed us to trace part of the gendarmerie headquarters staff officers of the problem of the provincial bureaucracy.
The article is devoted to the perception by Grand Dukes Nicholas and Alexander the person and the work of Michael Muraviev. By the example of formation of this perception shows crucial importance of journalism and public opinion in the process of formation of crown princes’ views on Russia during the era of Great Reforms.
