Scientists Discover Why Europium 'Misbehaves'
Europium is a rare-earth metal responsible for the pure red glow in displays and other luminescent materials. For a long time, however, it refused to emit light when surrounded by certain organic molecules known as acylpyrazolone ligands. Chemists have now uncovered the reason: in europium complexes with these ligands, a 'black window' appears—a charge-transfer state in which the energy absorbed by the ligand is dissipated as heat rather than emitted as light. Understanding this mechanism opens the way to designing more efficient red-emitting materials for displays, fluorescent thermometers, and chemical sensors. The results have been published in Dalton Transactions.

HSE Economists Reveal How the Wage Gap Emerges Among Vocational School Graduates
HSE researchers examined the careers of 600,000 graduates of Russian secondary vocational education programmes and found that at the start of their careers, the gender wage gap reaches 23%, doubling after three years. This disparity is largely due to male and female students choosing different occupations when enrolling in vocational schools. These were the findings made by Sergey Roshchin, Natalya Yemelina, and Ksenia Rozhkova from of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences. The article has been published in Educational Studies.

HSE Researchers Make Aldehydes Perform Dual Function
Chemists from HSE University have discovered a way to carry out a reductive addition reaction without using an external reducing agent. Instead, the required 'resource' is supplied by the aldehyde itself, one of the reaction participants. This approach helps prevent unwanted side reactions, reduces toxicity, and simplifies the production and synthesis of organic molecules, including those used in the manufacture of medicines. The study has been published in Journal of Catalysis.

On Ω-stable 3-diffeomorphism with a solid or thickened surfaced basic set
Pochinka O., Barinova M., Journal of Geometry and Physics 2026 Vol. 228 P. 1–8
In the present paper we consider an Ω-stable 3-diffeomorphism with a solid or thickened surfaced non-trivial basic set. Such basic sets include, for instance, all one-dimensional expanding attractors and those two-dimensional basic sets that are not expanding. We prove that the chain recurrent set of every such a diffeomorphism necessarily contains at least two non-trivial ...

German O., Illarionov A., Известия РАН.

Object-centric process management: A research manifesto
Seidel A., Weske M., Montali M. et al., Information Systems 2026 Vol. 141 Article 102728
Business process management employs process models and event logs to represent the behavior of the information systems under study. Traditional case-centric notions consider the order of activities and events in isolated process instances. The emerging field of object-centric processes challenges this assumption by putting objects in the center. Object-centric process mining and modeling approaches identify ...

Generalized Hurst Hypothesis: Description of Time-Series in Communication Systems
Ivchenko A., Nigmatullin R. R., Dorokhin S. V., Mathematics 2021 Vol. 9 No. 4 Article 381
n this paper, we focus on the generalization of the Hurst empirical law and suggest a set of reduced parameters for quantitative description of long-time series. These series are usually considered as a specific response of a complex system (economic, geophysical, electromagnetic and other systems), where successive fixations of external factors become impossible. We consider ...

Exact Algorithm for Generating H-Cores in Simplified Lattice-Based Protein Model
Ignatov A., , in: 14th International Conference, OPTIMA 2023, Petrovac, Montenegro, September 18–22, 2023, Revised Selected Papers. Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS, volume 1913)Vol. 1913.: Springer, 2023. P. 173–187.
Modeling protein folding, which is the process by which a protein obtains its spacial shape, still remains a challenging problem. Protein geometry might be simplified by using the coarse-grained models. The highest level of simplification is achieved in HP-models where only polarity of amino acid residues is considered, and the unified monomers are located in nodes ...

Pablo San Segundo ., Jorge Artieda .., Mikhail Batsyn et al., Optimization Methods and Software 2017 Vol. 32 No. 2 P. 312–335
This paper describes BBMCW, a new efficient exact maximum clique algorithm tailored for large sparse graphs which can be bit-encoded directly into memory without a heavy performance penalty. These graphs occur in real-life problems when some form of locality may be exploited to reduce their scale. One such example is correspondence graphs derived from data association ...

Infra-chromatic bound for exact maximum clique search
San Segundo P., Nikolaev A., Batsyn M., Computers & Operations Research 2015 Vol. 64 P. 293–303
Many efficient exact branch and bound maximum clique solvers use approximate coloring to compute an upper bound on the clique number for every subproblem. This technique reasonably promises tight bounds on average, but never tighter than the chromatic number of the graph. Li and Quan, 2010, AAAI Conference, p. 128–133 describe a way to compute even ...

Goldengorin B. I., Pardalos P. M., Chistyakov V.,
It is known that by means of minimal values of tolerances one can obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of the optimal solution of a combinatorial optimization problem (COP) with an additive objective function and the set of nonembedded feasible solutions. Moreover, the notion of a tolerance is defined locally, i.e., with respect ...

Extremal values of global tolerances in combinatorial optimization with an additive objective function
Chistyakov V., Goldengorin B. I., Pardalos P. M., Journal of Global Optimization 2012 Vol. 53 No. 3 P. 475–495
The currently adopted notion of a tolerance in combinatorial optimization is defined referring to an arbitrarily chosen optimal solution, i.e., locally. In this paper we introduce global tolerances with respect to the set of all optimal solutions, and show that the assumption of nonembededdness of the set of feasible solutions in the provided relations between ...
