Research materials: materials of scientific collections and the NIIHP expeditions from the archive of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts.
Results and scientific novelty: Against the background of globalization and technological progress, which have led to the extinction of many craft traditions, the article proposes to consider methods of creating contemporary craft products to return them back to the everyday environment. The study revealed the importance of a deep analysis of the artistic system of each craft for understanding possible ways of adapting craft items to the contemporary living environment. Examples of the NIIHP employees expeditions demonstrate the methods of stylization, citation and transcription as approaches to do this. For the successful application of the NIIHP methods in modern context, it is proposed to analyze specific examples of crafts, describing their artistic system and highlighting stabilizing elements, which will allow the creation of craft items integrated into modern life and preserving cultural heritage. For the first time, an in-depth study of the NIIHP archives at the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum has been conducted and NIIHP methods have been adapted for the contemporary context.
