At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Grapheme-color synesthesia induction with V4 transcranial direct current stimulation

Current Psychology. 2024. Vol. 43. P. 23436–23441.
S. Andreev, V. Moskvoretskiy, A. Gorin, O. Zinchenko

Grapheme-color synesthesia (GC-S) is a neurological condition in which the perception of a grapheme elicits the experience of color or even the visual representation of that grapheme as colored. Previous research using transcranial magnetic stimulation on GC-synesthetes demonstrated enhanced excitability of the visual cortex. Consequently, we hypothesized that using anodal "offline" transcranial direct current stimulation on the visual cortex in area V4 followed by visual training could boost cortical excitability in the target areas and thus produce effects similar to GC-S in non-synesthetes. We discovered that after anodal stimulation, participants had a considerably smaller mean change in reaction time on white symbols than after sham and cathodal stimulation. Our findings indirectly support the cross-activation hypothesis.

Algebraic Model of Reflexive Problematic Statements
V. A. Petrovsky, Scientific and Technical Information Processing 2022 Vol. 49 No. 6 P. 472 – 480
This paper focuses on reflexive problematic statements represented by modal judgments of validity (subjective truth) and their combinations. It is proposed to describe these statements at three levels: reflexive problematic statements per se, modal judgments that characterize the validity of sentences constituting complex statements, and matrix representations of modal judgments. Modal judgments, as part of ...

The paper substantiates the concept of the existence of a “transvital Self”, a particular form of an individual’s existence beyond the apparent forms of vital function and the processes of reproducing self as a psychophysical integrity. The author uses the term “transvitality” (as in A. Akopyan’s “transvital meanings”) to more generally address this concept as ...

О статусе «Я» в культурно-деятельностном дискурсе
Petrovskiy V., Культурно-историческая психология 2023 Т. 19 № 1 С. 35 – 40
The concept of the I that is present in the scholarly and mundane consciousness is inwardly paradoxical, as it contains the risk of regression to “bad infinity”. Thus, “I see an object” obviously creates in me the image of the object; by implication, “someone” inside me sees the image of the perceived object and, consequently, ...

Being able to remember the origin of a particular memory is for times even more important than the memory itself. Yet, although memory for the information and memory for the source are intrinsically connected, the particular neural underpinnings for the source‐memory monitoring remains unclear. We run an fMRI meta‐analysis to help to clarify the brain ...

A personology pivot in transactional analysis (methodological observations)
Petrovskiy V., Psychology. Journal of the Higher School of Economics 2025 Vol. 22 No. 1 P. 80–105
The first attempt is being made to synthesize fundamental, cultural, and practical psychology, focused on a transactional and analytical interpretation of personality (the “TA-model”). Prediction error coding as the computational basis for nocifensive and nocifensive-like behaviors
Batsunov A., Tugin S., Kirasirova L. et al., Frontiers in Neuroscience 2026
Nocifensive behavior (NB) is a protective response to noxious stimuli that threaten tissue damage. However, similar motor responses, termed nocifensive-like behavior (NLB), can be evoked by unexpected innocuous stimuli. This observation challenges strict “labeled-line” models of pain, raising a fundamental question: how does the nervous system discriminate true threats from false alarms? We review evidence ...

Artificial intelligence technologies, in-person and online learning in higher education: A review of the impact on perceptual features, psychological climate and academic performance
Ulyanina O. A., Vikhrova E. N., RUDN Journal of Psychology and Pedagogics 2025 Vol. 22 No. 2 P. 337–360
Rapid digitalization of higher education and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in instruction call for careful evaluation of their impact on students. Traditional face-to-face lectures and those given by an AI-avatar, remote online courses, each create distinct conditions that shape the classroom psychological climate and comfort. Prior research shows AI integration increases engagement, but ...

Functional Brain Connectivity and Musical Training: Insights from EEG Phase Synchronization during Music Perception
A. Radygina, S. Kulikova, Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences 2025 Vol. 95 No. 6 P. 963–970
Musical training has a significant impact on brain organization, leading to functional and structural adaptations that enhance auditory, visual, motor, and cognitive processes. This study investigates how extensive musical training shapes functional brain connectivity by comparing professional musicians and non-musicians. Using EEG phase-locking value (PLV) analysis, we examined neural synchronization across alpha, beta, and gamma frequency ranges during music ...

Design/methodology/approach A blind tasting experiment was conducted with 36 participants who evaluated six commercial milk samples (all 2.5% fat) differing in thermal processing and brand territorial coverage. Each sample was tasted twice, yielding 432 observations. Fatty ...
