The Chinese-language collection “China Statistical Abstract 2023”, published in May 2023, contains data for 2022 and the previous period, is reviewed. The main value of the collection is that it allows you to objectively identify the most important socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic and of the tough measures to combat it in the PRC. The changes in the rates of economic growth, shifts in the structure of the national economy are shown. The first decline in the population of the People’s Republic of China in the post-reform period was noted. The average per capita global level of GDP production was surpassed in China in 2022. At the same time, the country's share in world exports and imports of goods decreased.
