Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

‘Speech, Facial Expressions, and Gestures Cannot Lie
Would you like to know whether a speaker’s trembling voice or an accidental gesture can give them away? At HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod, researchers are developing an algorithm that analyses speech, facial expressions, and gestures, and determines whether information is truthful with 92% accuracy. The project has applications ranging from forensic examination and bank recruitment to fundamental research. Anna Khomenko, head of the research group and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Language and Brain at the HSE Faculty of Humanities in Nizhny Novgorod, explains how students and researchers are working together to create a corpus of video recordings, train a classifier, and prepare to introduce computer vision technology.

TIME SERIES FORECASTING WITH THE CIR# MODEL: FROM HECTIC MARKETS SENTIMENTS TO REGULAR SEASONAL TOURISM

Technological and Economic Development of Economy. 2023. Vol. 29. No. 4. P. 1216–1238.
Orlando G., Bufalo M.

This research aims to propose the so-called CIR#, which takes its cue from the well- known Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) model originally devised for pricing, as a general econometric model. To this end, we present the results on two very different time series such as Polish interest rates (subject to market sentiments) and seasonal tourism (subject to pandemic lock-down measures). For interest rates, as reference models, we consider an improved version of the CIR model (denoted CIRadj), the Hull and White model, the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) which is often adopted whenever no structure is assumed in the data and a popular machine learning model such as the short-term memory network (LSTM). For tourism, as a benchmark, we consider seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) complemented by the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) for modelling the variance, the classic Holt-Winters model and the aforementioned LSTM. Results support the claim that the CIR# performs better than the other models in all considered cases being able to deal with erratic behaviour in data.

Elyashevich I., Вестник Московского университета. Серия 6: Экономика 2026 Т. 61 № 3 С. 363–384
The study examined the properties of the normal distribution of the values of shipments of stocks of various categories from warehouses of large industrial companies. As a result, it was revealed that the use of the classical normal distribution, in some cases, may give incorrect results, since the values of stock shipments are positive values, ...

Orbifold Saito theory of A and D type singularities
Basalaev A., Rarovskii A., Journal of Singularities 2026 Vol. 30 P. 61–80
Saito theory associates to an isolated singularity rich structure that plays an important role in mirror symmetry. In this note we construct Saito theory for A and D type Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds. Namely, for the pairs (f,G), where f defines an isolated singularity of A and D type and G is a group of symmetries of ...

Non-axiomatizability of modal predicate logics of Dedekind-complete linear orders with constant domains
Rybakov M., Shkatov D., Journal of Logic and Computation 2026 Vol. 36 No. 6 Article exag026
We prove Pi-1-1-hardness, and thus lack of recursive axiomatizability, of constant-domain modal predicate logics defined by a class of Dedekind complete linear Kripke frames containing a frame with an infinitely increasing chain of worlds. The result holds even for the language with one unary predicate letter, one propositional letter, and two individual variables. ...

Demand for consumer loans in Russia: How strong is the interest rate channel of monetary policy?
Sinyakov A., Tatyana I. Shelovanova, Russian Journal of Economics 2025 Vol. 11 No. 1 P. 47–75
The booming retail trade and the above-target consumer prices inflation in 2023–2024 in Russia, amid tightening monetary policy stance, raise an issue of the strength of the monetary policy interest rate channel. The focus of our paper is the interest rate elasticity (given inflation expectations) of a household’s loan request probability. We argue that a ...

Multi-regression Forecast in Stochastic Chaos
Musaev A., Makshanov A., Dmitry Grigoriev, Computational Economics 2024 Vol. 64 P. 137–160
This paper addresses the challenge of short-term forecasting for processes modeled as output signals of nonlinear dynamic systems in unstable environments with non-stationary, non-Gaussian interference. Traditional computational forecasting methods are often ineffective for such chaotic processes, which exhibit exponential divergence of trajectories. We propose a solution based on multidimensional correlations with other processes in the ...
