Reduction of supernova light curves by vector Gaussian processes

Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. 2023. Vol. 526. No. 2. P. 1822–1831.
Matwey V Kornilov, Semenikhin T. A., Pruzhinskaya M. V.

Bolometric light curves play an important role in understanding the underlying physics of various astrophysical phenomena, as they allow for a comprehensive modelling of the event and enable comparison between different objects. However, constructing these curves often requires the approximation and extrapolation from multicolour photometric observations. In this study, we introduce vector Gaussian processes as a new method for reduction of supernova light curves. This method enables us to approximate vector functions, even with inhomogeneous time-series data, while considering the correlation between light curves in different passbands. We applied this methodology to a sample of 29 superluminous supernovae (SLSNe) assembled using the Open Supernova Catalog. Their multicolour light curves were approximated using vector Gaussian processes. Subsequently, under the blackbody assumption for the SLSN spectra at each moment of time, we reconstructed the bolometric light curves. The vector Gaussian processes developed in this work are accessible via the python library gp-multistate-kernel on GitHub. Our approach provides an efficient tool for analysing light curve data, opening new possibilities for astrophysical research.

Synthesis of Acyclic Models for Processes Without Repeating Events
Joulitov A.K., Lomazova I.A., Proceedings of the Institute for System Programming of the RAS 2026 Vol. 38 No. 4(2) P. 215–224
In process mining, DFG (Directly-Follows Graph) models are popular due to their simplicity and clarity. However, if a process is acyclic but contains concurrent events, standard algorithms for discovering DFG models can generate "fake" cycles that do not actually exist in the event log. These cycles hinder the analysis of information processes, significantly reducing the ...

Discovering object-centric Petri nets with parametric arcs
I.I. Sergeev, I.A. Lomazova, Modeling and Analysis of Information Systems 2026 Vol. 33 No. 3 P. 394–419
Object-centric process mining has emerged as a powerful paradigm for analyzing event data involving multiple interacting business objects. Existing discovery techniques often rely on object-centric Petri nets with fixed arc multiplicities, limiting their ability to represent parametric resource consumption and production patterns and to capture quantitative dependencies between interacting object types. In this paper, we ...

Critical dynamics of conformational exchange in a nearcritical solvent: A statistical-mechanical three-mode theory
Budkov Y., Kiselev M. G., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 No. 12 Article 124508
We develop a three-mode statistical-mechanical theory for a two-conformer solute in a near-critical solvent. A compressible lattice model with vacancies yields the Gaussian free-energy functional for a critical conserved density, an orthogonal noncritical conserved mode, and the local conformer fraction. Their couplings follow from packing and cohesive interactions, rather than being introduced phenomenologically. Kawasaki transport of the two conserved fields and ...

Hybrid Graph Retrieval-Augmented Language Agents for Collaborative Recommendation
Ivan Bulychev, Savchenko A., AI 2026 Vol. 7 No. 9 Article 380
Recent advances in large language model (LLM) agents have shown promise for autonomous decision-making in recommender systems. However, existing approaches suffer from two fundamental limitations: flat agent memories that conflate different information modalities and prohibitive computational costs that prevent scaling beyond a few hundred users. We propose Hybrid-GraphRAG, a recommender system that integrates hierarchical agent ...

Kryzhanovskaya N., Makhov I., Dragunova A., St. Petersburg Polytechnical University Journal: Physics and Mathematics 2026 Vol. 19 No. 1.1 P. 98–104
The planar microcavity structure was grown using molecular-beam epitaxy. Single-mode lasing was observed at a wavelength of 960 nm for pillars with a diameter of 15 μm. At 300 K, the lasing threshold was approximately 30 mW. Increasing the pump power to 2.7 times the threshold power resulted in a mode energy shift of approximately 1 meV. This shift ...

Thermo-optically tuned single-mode limaçon microlaser on quantum-dots
Образцова А. А., Ivanov K., Moiseev E. et al., Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics 2026 Vol. 59 No. 30 P. 305103
We demonstrate a thermo-optically tunable microlaser based on an InGaAs/GaAs quantum-dot (QD) active region employing a deformed limaçon-shaped cavity. The asymmetric geometry effectively lifts the degeneracy of high-Q whispering-gallery modes, enabling single-mode lasing. A side-mode suppression ratio exceeds 25 dB over a wide current range. Under continuous-wave electrical pumping, the device achieves a peak output power ...

Exact screening constraints for theories of inhomogeneous electrolytes: Generalized Stillinger–Lovett relations and a nonlinear Ward hierarchy
Budkov Y., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 No. 12 Article 124105
Exact theories of electrolyte structure must satisfy the nonlocal constraints imposed by electrostatic screening, yet these constraints are most commonly formulated only for homogeneous bulk systems and at the level of two-point correlations. Here, we develop a unified field-theoretic framework that extends them to general inhomogeneous ionic fluids and nonlinear charge correlations. Using a standard ...

Kondratiev I. A., Moiseenko S. G., Bisnovatyi-Kogan G. S., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2024 Vol. 45 No. 1 P. 50–59
Magnetorotational processes can significantly affect the dynamics of core-collapse supernovae, resulting to magnetically driven jet-like explosions. The magnetic field topology of progenitor stellar cores is believed to be quite complex and is not known precisely. Such complex structures may differ substantially from usual dipole or quadrupole field, which may cause to additional anisotropy of magnetorotational ...

The Diversity of Light Curves of Supernovae Associated with Gamma-Ray Bursts
Belkin S., Pozanenko Alexei, , in: Data Analytics and Management in Data Intensive Domains. 23rd International Conference, DAMDID/RCDL 2021, Moscow, Russia, October 26–29, 2021, Revised Selected Papers.: Springer, 2022. P. 74–91.
More than 10000 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been detected since discovery. Long-term observations of about 850 GRB afterglow in optic since 1998 have shown that a core-collapse supernova (SN) accompanies about 50 nearby GRB sources. We have collected about two dozen SNe’ multicolor light curves associated with GRBs. The sample is based on published data, ...

We find exact small deviation asymptotics with respect to a weighted Hilbert norm for some well-known Gaussian processes. Our approach does not require knowledge of the eigenfunctions of the covariance operator of a weighted process. Such a peculiarity of the method makes it possible to generalize many previous results in this area. We also obtain ...

Regression on the basis of nonstationary Gaussian processes with Bayesian regularization
Panov M., Burnaev E. V., Zaytsev A., Journal of Communications Technology and Electronics 2016 Vol. 61 No. 6 P. 661–671
We consider the regression problem, i.e. prediction of a real valued function. A Gaussian process prior is imposed on the function, and is combined with the training data to obtain predictions for new points. We introduce a Bayesian regularization on parameters of a covariance function of the process, which increases quality of approximation and robustness ...
