At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Novel [1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazine and [1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazepine Derivatives: Synthesis, Anti-Viral In Vitro Study and Target Validation Activity

Molecules. 2022. Vol. 27. No. 22. Article 7940.
Khramchikhin A., Skryl’nikova M., Esaulkova I., Sinegubova E., Zarubaev V., Maxim A. Gureev

This study of the interaction system of binucleophilic 3-substituted 4-amino-4H-1,2,4-triazole-5-thiols and 3-phenyl-2-propynal made it possible to develop a new approach to synthesis of such isomeric classes as 7-benzylidene-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazine and 8-phenyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazepine. Among the 20 compounds studied in vitro against influenza A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) virus, half of them demonstrated selectivity index (SI) of 10 or higher and one of them (4-((3-phenylprop-2-yn-1-yl)amino)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol) possessed the highest (SI > 300). Docking results and values showed that the preferred interactant for our ligands was M2 proton channel of the influenza A virus. Protein-ligand interactions modeling showed that the aliphatic moiety of ligands could negatively regulate target activity level.

Interpreting antiviral effects: from experimental measurements to mechanistic viral dynamics
Nersisyan A., Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences 2026 Vol. 13 Article 1995001
Antiviral activity is commonly summarized using endpoint measures such as EC50 or EC90, yet these quantities emerge from a dynamic biological system and depend on viral replication kinetics, host-cell properties, experimental design, and the assay used to quantify infection. Infectious-virus titers, viral RNA, infected-cell fractions, viability measurements, and immune readouts capture different components of the ...

A Reproducible Microscopy Acquisition Pipeline and Microscopy-Aware Attention for Classification, Detection, and Segmentation of Microorganisms
Aleksei Samarin, Nazarenko A., Nazarenko D. et al., Machine Learning and Knowledge Extraction 2026 Vol. 8 No. 10 Article 330
Automated microscopic image analysis is essential for quantitative microbiology, yet manual acquisition and generic recognition models struggle with morphological variability and scene artifacts. We address both ends of this pipeline. First, we present a low-cost, open-source acquisition system, based on an Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller and NEMA 17 stepper motors, that automates focusing, magnification, and ...

Focusing the Diffusion: Importance Sampling for One-Shot Subject-Driven Image Generation
Mamedov I., Fofanov M., Lukianchenko P. et al., IEEE Access 2026 No. 14 P. 26662–26671
DreamBooth-style personalization, which often relies on one or a few images, can memorize context (background, pose, lighting) rather than learning the subject’s identity, thereby reducing fidelity and limiting prompt-driven edits. P-LoRA (Probability LoRA) is introduced as a training-time modification that biases diffusion timestep sampling and utilizes importance weights, ensuring that the overall objective remains unchanged. ...

Sandpile Cellular Automata with Manna Rule on the Chung-Lu Graph: Application to X Social Network
Dmitriev A., Kornilov V., Batienkov R., Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering 2026 Vol. 886 P. 249–255
Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

Sandpile Cellular Automata with Manna Rule on the Chung-Lu Graph: Application to X Social Network
Dmitriev A., Shulman I., Lebedev A., Studies in Computational Intelligence 2026 Vol. 1265 P. 266–273
A discrete-time model is presented for the self-organization of the X/Twitter social network to the edge of a phase transition, characterized by avalanche-like propagation of information in the network. The model is based on the analogy between the critical dynamics of the X social network and sandpile cellular automata with Manna rule on the Chung-Lu ...

When universal machine learning models fail in capacitance prediction for carbon-based supercapacitors: Leakage-aware validation and electrolyte screening
Makarov D. M., Kalikin N., Fashchevsky K. A. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 579 Article 150159
Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors; however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

Dimension-Augmented Anisotropy in Graph Neural Diffusion
Sycheva T., Beketov M., Smolyar I., , in: Artificial Neural Networks and Machine Learning. ICANN 2025 International Workshops and Special Sessions: 34th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, Kaunas, Lithuania, September 9–12, 2025, Proceedings, Part V.: Cham: Springer, 2025. Ch. 4 P. 29–33.
We consider Graph Anisotropic Diffusion (GAD), a recently proposed model of graph neural networks, that can be trained to predict desired properties of the graph by performing learnable diffusion of node features on it. In contrast with similar methods, GAD introduces anisotropy of said diffusion by incorporating filters built from the graph’s Fiedler vector. In ...

Abiraterone Acetate Complexes with Biometals: Synthesis, Characterization in Solid and Solution, and the Nature of Chemical Bonding
Buikin Petr, Vologzhanina A., Novikov R. et al., Pharmaceutics 2023 Vol. 15 No. 9 Article 2180
Abiraterone acetate (AbirAc) is the most used steroidal therapeutic agent for treatment of prostate cancer. The mainly hydrophobic molecular surface of AbirAc results in its poor solubility and plays an important role for retention of abiraterone in the cavity of the receptor formed by peptide chains and heme fragments. In order to evaluate the hydrolytic ...

Reducing false-positive rates in virtual screening via cancellation of systematic errors in the scoring function
Medvedev M., Stroganov O., Dmitrienko A. et al., Mendeleev Communications 2022 Vol. 32 No. 6 P. 735–738
Here we propose an over-the-hood docking method that compensates for systematic errors in the docking force fields. This method explicitly estimates the interaction energy of the ligand with the protein surface and uses it as a baseline to estimate the actual binding energy in the active site. It improves the accuracy of virtual screening in the LeadFinder package by up ...

Genomic analysis of human polymorphisms affecting drug-protein interactions
Pich i Rosello O., Vlasova A., Shichkova P. et al., / Series 005140 "Biorxiv". 2017.
Human genetic variability is thought to account for a substantial fraction of individual biochemical characteristics — in biomedical sense, of individual drug response. However, only a handful of human genetic variants have been linked to medication outcomes. Here, we combine data on drug-protein interactions and human genome sequences to assess the impact of human variation ...
