At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Structure of AlNiGd nanocomposites with enhanced ductility produced by high pressure torsion processing

Materials Science & Engineering A, Нидерланды. 2022. Vol. 850. Article 143420.
Vasiliev S. V., Limanovskii A. I., Tkachenko V. M., Tsvetkov T. V., Svyrydova K. A., Burkhovetskii V. V., Sayapin V. N., Naumchuk O. A., A.S.Aronin, Tkatch V. I.

The fully consolidated bilayer (consisting of two amorphous Al86Ni9Gd5 melt-spun ribbons) disks with a diameter
of 5 mm were produced using unconstrained high pressure torsion (HPT) processing subjecting for 2–5 turns at
applied pressures of 2 and 4 GPa. The structure and mechanical properties of the disks as well as those of the asprepared
and heated up to 479 K ribbon samples were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission and
scanning electron microscopy, three-point bending tests and measurements of microhardness. It was established
that the heat treatment and consolidation resulted in formation of nanocomposite structures consisting of Al
nanocrystals 21 and 6 nm in size, respectively, with enhanced microhardness. It was shown that the heat
treatment of the ribbon led to a loss of the plastic strain (from 2 to 0.4%) while the consolidated disks retained
the same level of plasticity as that in the as-cast amorphous ribbon. The possible reason of the enhanced plasticity
of the nanophase composites obtained by deformation-induced crystallization was discussed.

Wu Z., Yu Y., Chibisov A., Materials Today Energy 2023 Vol. 37 Article 101414
The limited availability of lithium metal resources has led to the development of sodium/potassium-ion batteries due to the abundance and low cost of sodium/potassium. However, finding suitable cathode materials with high capacity, stable cycling performance, and efficient electrochemical interface is still challenging. Herein, the honeycomb layered structures of P2-type A2Ni2TeO6 (A = Na, K) have been explored ...

Enhancement of superconductivity by polarization of magnetic impurities in disordered films
Seleznev G., Fominov Yakov V., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 7 Article 074505
Dirty superconducting films with magnetic impurities can exhibit nontrivial behavior in a magnetic field that polarizes the impurity spins. As predicted by Kharitonov and Feigelman (KF) [JETP Lett. 82, 421 (2005)], this polarization reduces the exchange scattering rate. Consequently, a parallel magnetic field can enhance the critical temperature Tc when magnetic-field pair breaking is weak, as realized for ...
