Poker (especially online poker) has gained tremendous popularity in recent years and it is currently played by millions of players world-wide. Russian poker-industry is not an exception. Professional community for poker players has formed during last 10 years. This article investigates the self-identification of professional poker players. Author draws a distinction between games of skill and games of chance in question of professional poker. The central line in the paper is devoted to players’ perceptions of their employment and professional identity. Results indicate professional qualities necessary for this job and legitimating strategies, which are used to cope with external judgments.
Retail forex is an expensive non-regulated gambling industry. Both huge leverage and intraday unpredictability create lottery-like risk profile: most traders lose in futile hope to win. Retail forex is grabbing other people’s money pretending to be a financial market. Like casinos it exploits human errors of judgment. Considering no social use its better to prohibit such activity rather than trying to regulate it. Results are based on simulation of zero intelligence traders.
