Evacuation of plants and population to the Molotov region during the Great Patriotic War is one of the well-researched episode. Rescue of people from the front line, primarily children, as well as equipment of industrial enterprises, was a priority for the state. However, an important task was also the evacuation of material values and documents of the state archives. One of the centers for the evacuation of archival heritage in 1941-1942. became the city of Molotov (Perm).
Based on the analysis of the archival material, the article reveals some aspects of the activity of Molotov’s archivists during the war period, connected with the rescuing of evacuated documents of the Central Archive of Revolution and some archives of Leningrad region. The evacuated materials began to arrive to Molotov in August 1941, and already in 1942 in seriously influenced on the work of the archive. The archivists of Molotov could provide the best conditions to the evacuated materials only to the detriment of their own work. For the long period the archive was practically forced to stop the reference and scientific work, as well as the systematization of the archival funds. But the core targets of the archive at this period were not reduced by the authority, which led to the overstrain and management discontent. At the same time, the key mission – the security of the evacuated documents – was accomplished by the archivists. The re-evacuation of the materials of the Central Archive of Revolution in March 1944, let to return to the pre-war working conditions.
