Астрономическое наследие в списке Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО

Наследие и современность. 2020. Т. 3. № 1. С. 7-29.

World Heritage Center strategy to implement pilot project «Astronomy and World Heritage. A Thematic Initiative», which was launched in 2003, is considered. As part of this project, four astronomical heritage-related sites were added to the World Heritage List in 2010 and 2019. However, a detailed study of the UNESCO World Heritage List shows, that it already contains astronomical heritage sites, which have been included there as part of complex nominations, consisting of several or even many sites (usually historical parts of cities or historical territories). To date, the astronomical heritage on the UNESCO list is represented by the following objects: buildings and structures of historical observatories (both ancient observatories of the pre-optical period of observation, as well as observatories with optical telescopes and even radio telescopes); places containing evidence of traditional astronomical views by local residents; historical monuments, wherein observatories were once located; archaeological heritage sites, believed to have been used for astronomical observations. The article details examples of UNESCO World Heritage List astronomical heritage sites.
