New Marriage Trends: The Contemporary Marriage.

Human systems. 2015. Vol. 26. No. 2. P. 205-221.

The article traces the main developments of the modern marriage as of social construction. Starting from the main features of traditional marriage- through the New age's marriage - it describes the peculiarities and main characteristics of marriage in postmodern era. The article picks up the main events and phenomena, which played the dramatically role in those developments: women's emancipation, contraceptives’ appearance, divorce's legitimization, urbanization, science progress in medicine, and others. Article shows, that new marriage is the union without the clear role’s distribution, often with small children of mature spouses, with delivering lot of traditional family's functions to hired helper's – outsiders towards the family, with extremely high role and at the same time «playfulness» of sexual relations, without clear family's boarders. New forms of the marriage appears – binuclear families, bicareer families, same gender marriages, marriages with pets, which play the role of the family's members… Authors assume, that the number of people not establishing the marriages or families at all, number of «visiting” marriages, as well as variety of possible people relationships in common will increase. Because of all this, family therapists have to let off the rigid concepts of «functional» or «dysfunctional» family and become orientated to tolerance, less or non-expert position and much more flexibility in their professional orientations and methods.
