Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

No Species Is an Island, Entire of Itself: Genetic Speciation Algorithm with Interplay among Species

International Journal of Engineering, Transactions B: Applications. 2027. Vol. 40. No. 5. P. 1437–1460.

This paper, with a particular emphasis on Genetic Algorithm (GA), proposes a novel approach that integrates clustering mechanisms, predator-prey dynamics, and a distinctive selection strategy for generating subsequent populations. The proposed evolutionary algorithm, referred to as Genetic Speciation Algorithm with Interplay Among Species (GSAIS), is comprehensively evaluated against several variants of GAs as well as a set of widely adopted state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, recognized among the top-performing winners of recent Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC) competitions. This thorough comparative study is performed using the most well-established benchmark functions, covering unimodal, multimodal, hybrid, and composition optimization landscapes. The experiments are conducted on medium-, and large-scale problem instances to evaluate the robustness, scalability, convergence behavior, and solution quality of GSAIS across diverse optimization scenarios. The GSAIS achieved rank 2nd, and 1st against the competitors in medium- and large- scale benchmark problems, respectively based on the Friedman Test with receiving 40.3% of top ranking along all instances based on best found and standard deviation rankings. Extensive statistical and computational results demonstrate the effectiveness of GSAIS, highlighting its superior performance in achieving global optimization. The ablation study and sensitivity analysis reveals the positive effect of the incorporated mechanisms in GSAIS in finding global optimization, especially in large scale problems. The findings establish GSAIS as a potential candidate method for addressing optimization problems and underscore its potential to advance the design of next-generation evolutionary algorithms.

Alexandrov D., Vasilevsky V., Rezunik L. et al., Труды Института системного программирования РАН 2026 Т. 38 № 5 С. 73–90
Large language models demonstrate limitations in tasks that require precise information retrieval from very long input sequences. This limitation affects code generation in large object-oriented systems, where correctness depends on complex inter-class dependencies and the analysis of long execution traces that exceed standard context window sizes. This paper presents JavaCapsule, a technology for automated generation ...

Reliable Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) evaluation requires propagation models that represent terrain and multilevel infrastructure. Most integrated vehicular simulators still rely on planar models, but the magnitude of the resulting bias is unclear. This study quantitatively compares flattened two-dimensional (2D) and terrain-aware three-dimensional (3D) variants of three scenarios using identical Sionna RT settings. Automated Ranking of Soybean Plots from Close-Range RGB Video via Depth Filtering and Point-Based Counting
Groshev Maksim, Rybakov Petr, Teterin N. et al., Sensors 2026 Article 6171
Manual assessment of soybean yield components, such as pod number, is laborious, time-consuming, and subjective. Existing computer-vision approaches based on object detection or instance segmentation perform poorly on close-range RGB imagery of soybean canopies due to severe occlusions, ambiguous plant boundaries, and the high cost of bounding-box annotation. To address these challenges, we propose a ...

Enhancing Boundary Stability in Decision Trees and Random Forests: A Weighted Sample Duplication Approach
Konstantinov A., Elizarova Anastasiya P., Utkin L., Computing, Telecommunications and Control 2026 Vol. 19 No. 1 P. 16–25
Decision trees and their ensemble extensions, such as random forests, are widely used as classification models due to their simplicity and interpretability. However, in many real-world tasks where class labels overlap in the feature space, standard decision trees rely on hard splits that create fragile decision boundaries. In these regions, small perturbations in the input ...

Bayesian Adaptive Sparse Copula
Prokhorov A., Burda M., Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics 2026 P. 1–13
Bayesian nonparametric density estimation procedures are typically based on single-scale priors, such as Dirichlet process mixtures. Alternative multiscale density priors built on decision trees have many well-known advantages, including the ability to characterize abrupt local changes and to provide an estimate with a desired level of resolution. Despite their theoretical appeal, multiscale methods have typically ...

Zlotnik A., Математические заметки 2026 Т. 120 № 6 С. 1005–1009

Sohrabi M., Fathollahi-Fard A., Gromov V., Automation and Remote Control 2024 Vol. 85 No. 3 P. 252–262
Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are known for their efficiency in solving combinatorial optimization problems, thanks to their ability to explore diverse solution spaces, handle various representations, exploit parallelism, preserve good solutions, adapt to changing dynamics, handle combinatorial diversity, and provide heuristic search. However, limitations such as premature convergence, lack of problem-specific knowledge, and randomness of crossover ...
