Double Degree Programme in Strategic Management in Logistics Named One of Germany’s Best
The Strategic Management in Logistics doudble-degree master’s programme, for which HSE has partnered up with Germany’s BBW University of Applied Sciences, received 10 out of a possible 11 points in the international training category of Germany’s Centre for Higher Education (CHE) ranking of master’s programmes.
HSE has been working with the BBW University of Applied Sciences for several years. BBW is a German university founded in 2007 on the initiative of industrial associations in Berlin and Brandenburg. As part of the universities’ cooperation, a dual-degree programme was established within the Strategic Management in Logistics master’s programme. Students spend the majority of their first year at HSE before moving to Berlin for a year not only to study, but also to participate in internships at German companies there. They then return to Moscow to finish the programme and defend their theses.
The Centre for Higher Education (Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung, or CHE) compiles the most comprehensive ranking of universities and institutes in Germany, covering 39 different subject areas. The rating forms the basis for the Educational Directory published regularly by the newspaper Die Zeit.
The Strategic Management in Logistics doudble-degree programme received 10 out of a possible 11 points in the CHE ranking’s category for international training. This assessment factored in the work of all educational institutions that helped carry out the program, including both BBW and HSE.
An audit conducted on the programme evaluated criteria such as duration of students’ studies in their home country and abroad, percentage of foreign students, and the difficulty of the programme from the standpoint of stated requirements for future graduates. The auditors noted the practical focus of the program’s disciplines, its connection to the business community, and the high level of student involvement in research and hands-on activities.
A large group part of the programme’s teaching staff at the two universities consists of professionals who hold managerial positions at well-known companies, or who even own them. This allows them to stay abreast of economic events in both Russia and Germany and to integrate best practices in the fields of logistics and supply chain management for educational and research processes.
