The desire for continuing education is essentially connected with students’ current careers. People want to improve their professional skills in their area of specialization (62%) and gain knowledge in related fields (12%). 11% of respondents were forced to begin a continuing education programme out of a desire to change professions or find employment in their fields of interest and abilities while at the same earning adequate income.
This information came from a survey of 3,054 continuing education students from 57 of Russia’s territorial entities that was conducted in 2013 as part of the HSE’s Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations (MEMO)”. A newsletter highlighting the research – ‘Continuing Education of Adults: Students’ Strategies’ – is planned for publication in the second half of 2014.
