Suitcase Trade Between Turkey and Russia: Microeconomics and Institutional Structure

The paper focused on an important dimension of contemporary international economy: the “Suitcase/Shuttle trade.” More specifically, it has examined a microcosm of the new economic geography created through the “shuttle” trade between former Soviet republics and Turkey between 1991 and 2002. The project had three main goals. One was to provide a profile of both the Turkish and Russian traders so as to acquire insights into the dynamics of shuttle trade. Second, to find out how informal networks operate and what kind of regulatory challenges do they create for the governments?
