Dec. 4, 18:00 - 19:30 the HSE Public Policy Department will hold a seminar on the ‘Development of schools of public policy in Russia, Europe and globally: university-based research, programs, and professional communities’. The seminar leader Dr. Robert Hoppe agreed to answer some questions for us that indicate his thinking around the issues which arise in devising and implementing public policy and its development as a subject of study.

The HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) is hosting the 3rd Annual LCSR Conference from 12th - 16th November 2013, in Moscow. Dr. Malina Voicu from GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences Data Archive for the Social Sciences (DAS), gave a special interview for the HSE news service before the conference.

The HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) will be hosting the 3rd Annual LCSR Conference from 12th -16th November 2013, in Moscow. The focus of this year’s conference is on developing empirical quantitative comparative studies in social science.

On November 6-7, the International Institute of Statistical Education organized a series of seminars by Hermann Habermann, a renowned specialist in statistics and a Corresponding Member of the US National Academy of Sciences.

During the conference Low Fertility and Low Mortality: Observable Reality and Visions of the Future, dedicated to the 25^th anniversary of the HSE Institute of Demography, leading international researchers not only presented their reports, but also shared their impressions about their collaborations  with their Russian colleagues.

Elena Dragalina-Chernaya, Professor of the Department of Ontology, Logic, and Epistemology, HSE Faculty of Philosophy and Head of the Laboratory for Philosophical Studies, HSE Centre for Advanced Studies presents international conference “Ontology of Negativitiness” that will take place at the HSE on October, 22-23, 2013.

The self-sufficient and closed academic environment in Russia is an obstacle to the appearance of world-class universities, argues Maria Yudkevich in her article presented at the 4th International Conference ‘University Traditions: a Resource or a Burden?’

Peter Major,one of the world's leading experts in the field of ‘Governing the Internet’ comes to Moscow on September, 24^th to spend a few days for sharing his experience and views with the HSE teachers and students. He will deliver a lecture ‘Internet as a Key Element of Development’, a seminar ‘Internet Governance’ with a consultation session and a seminar ‘International Structures of Internet Governance: forum on internet governance, forum on IT’ with a master class ‘Internet Governance Mechanisms’.

On September 11-13, 2013, an international seminar “The Solar System and the Asteroid Threat” will take place at the HSE. Mark Boslough, Professor at the University of New Mexico and a member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, and Roberto Furfaro, Professor at the University of Arizona and the head of the Space Systems Engineering Laboratory, will speak on the issues. The event is being organized by the Research Laboratory of Space Research, Technologies, Systems, and Processes at the HSE. Mark Boslough gave a special interview to the HSE news service.

The annual conference of the American Sociological Association was in New York this year. Among the 6,000 specialists discussing the current state of social sciences and society were 18 academics from the HSE.
