HSE University is hosting the XXIV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development in Moscow from April 4–14. The conference has attracted over 3,000 leading researchers, experts, business representatives and government officials from over 30 countries. The leaders of HSE University—Rector Nikita Anisimov, Academic Supervisor Yaroslav Kuzminov, and President Alexander Shokhin—addressed the conference participants.

The conference has been organised together with leading Russian corporations, research and consulting institutions.

HSE University experts will present over 20 analytical reports, which can be used to create recommendations to boost Russia’s development and human, industrial and innovative capabilities.

The conference’s topical sessions will present and discuss papers on the results of cutting-edge research, which have been selected as part of a competitive process. The conference will also include traditional expert discussions of the most relevant problems in economics, as well as social, domestic and international politics with government officials and leading Russian and international experts, honorary papers by recognised scholars from different countries, and a few associated events.

One of the honorary guests of the XXIV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development will be the renowned economist, Harvard professor and Nobel Prize winner in Economics, Eric Maskin.

The conference events are held in Russian or English. Some events will be held in both languages with simultaneous translation.

In order to attract more participants from various Russian and international regions, as well as taking into account possible pandemic-related limitations, the XXIV Yasin Conference will take place in a mixed format. Sessions and other events will mostly take place on-site, with the opportunity for certain speakers and participants to join online.

As in previous years, young researchers from various Russian regions will have an opportunity to present their papers on a wide range of topics, from Arctic research to demography, to health care development, to the global economy.

The complete programme of the Yasin Conference is available here.

The leaders of HSE University—Rector Nikita Anisimov, Academic Supervisor Yaroslav Kuzminov, and President Alexander Shokhin—addressed the conference participants.

Nikita Anisimov, HSE University Rector

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development! Our forum is taking place within the walls of HSE University for the 24th time. I am very pleased that each year, the conference attracts more and more talented researchers—not only professors and PhDs with many years of experience, but also young researchers at the start of their scientific careers.

The conference programme features two dozen interesting and timely topic areas. Leading researchers from Russia and abroad will present their reports on issues in economics, education, society, demography, the situation in the labour market, and other topics. They will present the results of studies that will be used to develop the economy and society of our country.

In addition to renowned researchers and experts, the forum will also feature presentations by representatives of business and the government. The participants will be able to share experience, ideas, and best practices, discuss timely issues and the results of research. These discussions will serve as the basis for developing recommendations to develop the human, industrial, and innovative potential of Russia.

I am confident that the nine days of the conference will be very productive, and that we and our colleagues will find solutions that will help us overcome the serious challenges facing the country today.

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come to our conference and to those taking part online. I wish you success and fruitful work!

Yaroslav Kuzminov, HSE University Academic Supervisor, Head of the Programme Committee of the XXIV Yasin (April) Conference

Dear colleagues, friends, and guests from Russia and abroad,

The XXIV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference will soon begin. This year, the forum can once again boast a strong attendance that will likely be in excess of 3,000 people. I believe that none of them will be left disappointed; guests can once again expect productive discussions on a wide range of issues, from arctic research and eastern studies to issues concerning financial institutions and the digital economy.

The week and a half of the conference will feature presentations of almost two dozen expert reports prepared by HSE University specialists, as well as more than 600 papers from conference participants which will be discussed as part of thirty specialised sections.

As in previous years, there will be expert discussions featuring the participation of public officials and leading Russian and international specialists. These will cover pressing issues in economic, social, domestic and international politics. There will also be the now-traditional special and associated events, including symposiums, round tables, and other forms of opinion exchange.

I once again welcome all the participants and guests of the conference and hope that it will promote the economic and social development of Russia, as well as become a major and significant event in the scientific life both of Russia and of the world.

I wish everyone interesting, informative, and productive meetings as part of the XXIV Yasin (April) Conference!

Alexander Shokhin, HSE University President

Dear colleagues and friends,

The time has come for the XXIV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. This year, it is bringing together 3,000 participants who are going to listen to over 600 presentations on a wide range of topics in social science and economics; they will exchange opinions as part of various symposiums, roundtable discussions and other events.

Our conference has joined the ‘Designing the Future’ initiative as part of Russia’s Decade of Science and Technology. This means that its participants are able to make a real contribution not only to creating the image of the future Russia, but to its real-life realisation by designing and implementing key S&T development initiatives, innovative ideas and projects.

I hope that as a result of the conference, each participant will be enriched with new knowledge, and the ideas that are elaborated as part of the event will contribute to our country’s S&T independence, something which has been discussed a lot recently.

I wish everyone fruitful work and great impressions over the coming ten days!
