Биополитика улучшения человека
The paper focuses on political meaning of the project of human enhancement. Liberal eugenics emphasizes individual freedom to decide upon biotechnological enhancement. It separates the social as institutional conditions for individual choice, from the biological that constitutes the substance of the choice. This paper claims that present situation of individual choice has always been inseparably linked with production of the subjects who are made responsible for maximization of their life and health. In this way the biological becomes itself the main dimension of the social. The main concepts are borrowed from Michel Foucault’s analysis of biopolitics and also from the studies of biotechnologies accomplished by his followers. While the debate of human enhancement tends to focus on whether it can be accommodated within some concepts of human nature, this paper suggests a range of issues related to political meaning and consequences of the projects of enhancement.
