Book
Эдельман О. М.: Издательский дом НИУ ВШЭ, 2016.

The first half of Joseph Jughashvili-Stalin’s life had been lived before  the Revolution of 1917. This part of his biography is highly controversial. His political enemies claimed him to have been a secret police agent or a gangster. And his contributions to the revolutionary struggle had been highly exaggerated by the official sycophants. But it would be wrong to think that the details of Stalin’s life before the Revolution are mostly obscure. On the contrary, there are plenty of sources: memoirs of his enemies and brothers-in arms, the party and police documents. The problem, however, is that few of them are reliable and impartial. Stalin’s biography had immediately become the field of power games and political warfare. It would be a fascinating task for a researcher to try to find out why and how the sources distort the truth.

The book is addressed to a wide audience of readers interested in history.

In 2007–2008 the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs published a series of works called “National Development Strategy”. They critically analyze the achievements and failures of developing countries in implementing their economic policy in the fields of macroeconomics, technology, investments, foreign trade, social sphere, public enterprises and the financial sector. These papers have been prepared under the direction of Jomo Kwame Sundaram, the winner of 2007 Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought, current UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development. In this book, the national development strategies are discussed in the context of Russian economic problems. To what extent the economic problems of new Russia are similar to those of other countries that formulate their national development strategies? What lessons can we learn from the mistakes and successes of the countries which are trying to break free from underdevelopment, poverty, and economic instability? Can we apply the UN recommendations on the development of national strategies to the Russian realities?

The author is the head of a department in the G raduate School of International Business of the Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, professor of the New Economic School.

Рябушкина Т. М. М.: Издательский дом НИУ ВШЭ, 2020.

The study investigates the foundations of different conjunctions of conscious experience, some of which form the structure of conscious in general and the others define the structure of specific objects. Rethinking subjectivity as a condition for the possibility of consciousness and cognition, the author opens the pre-conscious dimension of the self and shows that it is the relation of conscious representations to the pre-conscious results of receptivity that determines the structural peculiarities of phenomena. The process of cognition is understood as conciliation of the conscious level of subjectivity and the pre-conscious one that influences the consciousness. The understanding of the general way of cognition makes it possible to deduce the basic structures of consciousness (infinity, spatiality, temporality, causality, etc.), and to see the role that each of them plays in the organization of experience. The approach allows author to clarify the structure-forming grounds of the phenomenon of life and the related phenomena such as the phenomena of birth and death, the phenomenon of doppelganger, mythological ideas of androgynous or twin progenitors, etc.
Since the basic structures of the conscious world undergo significant modifications depending on the cognitive attitude (one of the possible ways of harmonizing the conscious and the pre-conscious “data”), it becomes comprehensible the existence of different epochs of cognition, each of which has its own set of interrelated representations — spatial, temporal and causal, aesthetic and others.
The analysis allows us to see that consciousness is not structurally unchangeable, that its form, as well as its content, is a renewable result of an unpredictable and complex process of cognition, realized not only on the conscious level but also on the pre-conscious one.
