The book ‘18th Century Architecture in Siberia’ is the first ultimate monography about the topic. 18thcentury was very special for Siberian architecture for two reasons. Firstly, it was a period when local builders created unique style, that differs from other regional styles of Russian architecture. Secondly, many of buildings of this period had outstanding artistic value, not only on local level, but for the whole country.
The research is focused on brick churches (more then 200) built between late 17th century when the brick architecture starts in Siberia and early 18th century when the last buildings of local taste appear. Unfortunately, very few wooden churches or brick secular buildings remains in Siberia, so any relevant conclusions about their architecture seem impossible. However, the information about these buildings is included in every relevant chapter. A huge amount of data and photos is collected, specially about buildings destroyed or severely damaged during Soviet regime. Most of existing buildings were studied and photographed by the author. Some of architectural monuments will be published for the first time.

The Enlightenment is inextricably connected to the conception of terrestrial space, through the medium of actual and imaginary travels. The eighteenth century witnessed several scientific expeditions, and these gave birth to a new field of knowledge, ethnography. Alien lands and the people living on them became the subject of reflection for some of the leading philosophes, Leibnitz, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Diderot, and Rousseau. Journeys to other states became an element in the education of noble youth. Investigating the historical and geographic problematic of the Enlightenment enables scholars to draw a picture of the representations of physical space made by Europeans of that era as well as to understand more precisely the basic world view underlying colonial expansion. Research of this sort tends to be more productive when carried out at the intersection of various disciplines, and this book is one venue for gathering historians (including historians of culture), geographers, philologists, and art historians together in a single volume. This substantial tome is both international and interdisciplinary, subsidized by two French organizationsdthe Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the Fondation Maison des sciences des l'homme (FMSH). Of the nineteen substantive essays, four are in French, one in English, and the rest in Russian. Two essays written by non-Russian scholars appear in Russian. However, the book's international appeal is enhanced by the fact that almost all the Russian-language essays are accompanied by a summary (generally in French) whilst the other essays have Russian summaries. Most of the contributors are Russian; others are French, German, Japanese, Maltese, and Brazilian.
This study examines the history of video art as a special form of moving image that consistently violates the rules and traditions developed in cinema and on television. Alexandra Persheeva shows how, with the help of montage, it is possible to push together not only images, but also entire discursive fields, how meanings arise at the junction of frames, and when the screens are combined and semantics gets built up. Each of the chapters of the book is devoted to various types of editing, tells about its occurrence and functioning in the screen culture, and about the experiments of artists, changing the methods of “montage thinking” that have become familiar. The author pays special attention to the role of gallery exhibition space, which, unlike the cinema hall, opens up the aesthetic possibilities of "spatial editing", as well as the role of the audience that becomes a co-author of the artist when in the field of video art. The book mentions and analyzes more than 250 experimental films and videos that may be of interest to both specialists and a wide circle of lovers of contemporary art.
