Дарфур: история конфликта
The conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan is considered one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of the 21st century. The monograph examines the causes and historical background of the Darfur conflict and domestic, regional and international factors that have determined its dynamics, as well as analyzes the attempts to resolve it. The author explores such destructive phenomena that predetermined the escalation of violence in the region as the socio-economic marginalization of peripheral areas of the country, the removal of regional leaders from the decision-making process at the national level, and the provision of the government's support to some tribal militias against others. The book studies the process of transformation of local disputes over access to natural resources and of clashes between individual armed groups as well as between the rebels and the regular army units into a "war of all against all". A special attention is paid to the analysis of the activities of the peacekeeping missions of the UN and the African Union in Darfur.
