This paper outlines the place occupied by the self-organization of citizens in the community in urban development. The paper considers the most widespread type of Russian eco-settlements – kin’s domain (or Anastasian) settlements (KDS). The author claims that the success rate of every separate KDS depends primarily on the settlers’ cohesion and their rootedness, which implies a high proportion of permanent settlers (including during the winter season); their financial security; well-organized household; and confidence in obtaining and maintaining legal title to the land. Based on field research, the author identifies the following factors that determine the degree of the settlers’ cohesion and rootedness: a) the number of residing families (the higher the number, the more difficult it may be for them to find common ground); b) the age of the settlement (this influences the relations between the residents, as well as their general sentiment); c) the distance to large towns (rootedness is generally low in the proximity of large towns; however, as the distance increases, rootedness tends first to grow, then drop, and finally grow again in remote places; and d) governance (the most important administrative decisions concern the policy on admitting newcomers and the decision on who will hold title to the land — the settlers themselves or a special purpose legal entity).
The paper analyzed the nature of financial technologies (FinTech). A historical periodization of evolution of FinTech is proposed. A list of factors that led to the emergence and fast development of FinTech is given. A list of main models of coexistence of traditional and innovative models of financial services is proposed. It is demonstrated that the financial services market will be dominated by financial institutions that combine traditional and innovative models.
Official statistical information is regularly publicly criticized for incorrect representation of social, economic and other processes and phenomena. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quality and causes of distorting quantitative data accumulated by the state officials at lower levels – direct executors possessing information about the actual methods of collecting primary and administrative data. More than 270 in-depth interviews with state and municipal officials, heads of municipalities, state employees and municipal institutions were conducted in 13 regions of the Russian Federation. At this level, three basic groups of restrictions on the official statistics were revealed: 1) excessive simplification of reality by the state optics, 2) systematic unintentional shifts in collection and capture of indicators, 3) intentional falsification of statistical indicators.
