Климов И. А. Социологический журнал. 2009. № 4. С. 104-136.

The article has been examining the ways of transformation of mortgage borrowers' everyday life as well as peculiarities of decision making under uncertainty and high risks closely related to house building and purchase dwelling. Our research is carrying out in Irkutsk since 2007. It shows that mortgage is not only "a school of financial competence". Mortgage is a mechanism of new responsibility's rising (through the person's internal motivation) and new social competence (through the recourse mobilization - personal and person's social network, self-organization and using new social practices). Thus mortgage is "a school of middle class".

The article examines the concept of mediatized worlds, which has been developed within the framework of mediatization studies. The author comes to the conclusion that the so-called mediatization theory cannot as yet claim the status of a new paradigm within media studies, since it does not possess sufficient explanatory power. The notion of mediatization marks a specific field of investigation in interrelations between sociо-cultural transformations and transformations of mediatechnologies, rather than explains these interrelations. Nevertheless, mediatization theory has its own heuristic prospects, among other things, due to the emergence of the concept of mediatized worlds. According to this approach, processes of mediatization of culture and society should be studied on the level of particular “social worlds” and/or “small life-worlds” articulated through media communications. This will allow identifying, describing and explaining the manifestations of mediatization in various segments of social reality, based on the results of empirical research. A move in this direction is discernible in the author’s typology of mediatized worlds, which aims at raising methodological sensibility of mediatization research.

This research seeks to investigate how consumers interpret their place in the market system and how consumers act upon these perceptions. By drawing from 54 interviews with a diverse sample of Moscow residents, this article explicates three key categories – presumption of guilt of market players, (ir)responsibility of the state and proactive consumer behavior. Interviews suggest that Consumers infuse market with moral meaning and have a strong sense of appropriateness. Consumers have a generalized idea of market players born within the commonsense world of everyday life and it produces a relay of signification and interpretation. Consumers’ problems or grievances in the past may result in blaming market players. Habitual way of interaction with market players was described in terms of confrontation or rivalry. Tensions between market player and consumers are expected to be resolved by an impartial party – state representatives. Consumers’ expectations to be protected by a government indicate victim-based consumer identity. Adopting a concept of cynical reason by P. Sloterdijk, the author offers a category “consumer cynicism” capturing mundane suspicion and disappointment in the relationship between consumers and market players. Yet consumers’ vigilance and alertness paradoxically create a sense of security and self-affirmation. Moreover, consumer cynicism fuel proactive consumer behavior. Trying to fight back market injustice, consumers' choices are governed by a principle “do not overpay” for financially stable informants and the principle “do not go broke” for those who struggle with money. Saving and coping are interpreted as a choice rather than financial necessity. Proactive consumer behavior is conceptualized as a form of individual resistance. Tactical everyday resistances allow to protect one’s interests yet entail a perception of being less powerful. The author discusses three understandings of saving and coping: survival, game and calculation.

Хавенсон Т. Е. Социологический журнал. 2016. Т. 22. № 4. С. 74-89.

The conclusions that researchers make from the studies are strongly contingent on the quality of information they gathered. It is especially relevant when school age children are the single source of information. They might lack of knowledge of some factual questions, e. g. parents’ level of education or occupation or other characteristics of family socioeconomic status (SES). In this paper we present the systematic review of the studies devoted to the assessment of the quality of school age children responses on family SES proxies. The quality of responses refers to the ability of children correctly indicate the education and occupation of their parents and the number of missing answers on a particular SES measure. 16 papers were included in our sample for the review. We conclude that school age children reports are of moderate quality. Average percentage of agreement is 70% for occupation and 60% for educational questions. Correlation is about 0.7 for occupation and 0.6 for education. We also make some conclusions about tendency to miss the question and the respondents’ characteristics that might be related to the response quality.

During the 1990’s and 2000’s audience research departments at broadcasting companies and advertising agencies played a serious role in the development of Russian sociology of media. One such subsidiary is VGTRK’s Audience Research Agency, founded by media manager and journalist A.G. Bystritsky, and which for a long time was run by sociologist A.V. Sharikov. The tasks of the Agency have repeatedly changed for 12 incomplete years of its work. They included secondary analysis of the results of TV audience measurement, expert surveys, audience qualitative studies, research expeditions to the Russian regions, etc. A special place among the Agency projects is held by the first exit poll in the history of Russian sociology (1993). Examined are the main periods and lines of activity of this subsidiary, its projects and the publications based upon them. Information is provided about the leading experts who participated in the agency’s activities throughout the years of its existence.

In Russia, unlike other countries, long-term and short-term trends in GDP (income) and life satisfaction a strong positive relationship (as in a time of deep economic crisis, and during the rapid economic growth). Evidence forthis is found in time series data RLMS–HSE for the years 1994–2013. Skeptics, who claim that the transition from socialism to a market-oriented economy has made people unhappy, as well as the slow-rated life satisfaction rise, were wrong because of insufficient-data used. Life satisfaction closely follow the changes in the volume of production, income and consumption (with time lags, the size of which is determined by the degree of awareness of what is happening). The relationship between life satisfaction and its main determinants in Russia are of the same nature as in many countries (both developed and developing). And their specific characteristics and shape depend on the characteristics of the economic cycle in the country and the previous ways (models) of its development. The losses from the economic crisis are perceived sharper than the benefits of economic growth. Restoration of some indicators of social well-being happens more slowly, than restoration of basic economic indicators. What is typical for countries which endured deep fluctuations in a business cycle.

The article is dedicated to the significance and prospects of development of a new research field — astrosociology. Space studies have traditionally been the preserve of science and technology, whereas social and cultural aspects of space exploration have hardly been looked into. How can the space problematics enter the field of social science? What do sociologists have to say about human society that travels to outer space, survives in space, imagines space? These questions bring to the fore bilateral connections between mankind and space, namely the ways space affects social life and vice versa. The author identifies and characterizes three modes of astrosociological research: astrosocial studies, studies of astroculture, and studies of astropolitics. In the first case, space is regarded as an extra-social factor, in the second, as a social and cultural construct, and in the third, more specifically, as a matter of public opinion. However, the boundaries of these three research spheres are permeable, and taken together these areas of study form a multi-dimensional and as yet invisible interdisciplinary field. The present article aims at conceptualizing this field and raising social scientists’ awareness of its potential for further research.

This work is one of the few modern background research on creativity of professionals in Russian literature. The article provides a critical analysis of existing concepts of creativity and influence of various factors on its implementation.

Firstly, apropos of the question of domain generality-specificity of creativity, it is concluded that social aspects of creativity may be considered without regard to specific sphere of action. Social factors stimulating creativity, for example, of engineers is supposed will be positively related to creativity of financial analysts. And if an actor is creative in some area of his competence, he will be creative in another one. High level of competence is a necessary quality for creative actions.

Secondly, although definition of creativity given by T. Amabile is the most common, it may be too rigorous in research and limit number of relevant examples of creativity. p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; direction: ltr; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); }p.western { font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; }p.cjk { font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; }p.ctl { font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; }a:visited { color: rgb(128, 0, 128); }a.western:visited { }a.cjk:visited { }a.ctl:visited { }a:link { color: rgb(0, 0, 255); }a.sdendnotesym-ctl { font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; }

In this case the approach proposed by R. Drazin, et al. may be useful. According to Drazin, creativity is a choice made by an individual to engage in producing novel ideas.

Thirdly, probably factors of creativity have been discussed. Summarizing, one can say, that two key conditions for successful creative activity are possibility and desirability of creativity within the framework of existing labour practices.

Finally, in the paper it discusses applicability to Russian professionals of results derived from the survey of respondents from Western culture. Finally, it concludes the need of further research in the field of professionals’ creativity in the domestic empirical material.

The paper deals with the theory of collective trauma, which is built within the framework of the “strong program” in cultural sociology by Jeffrey Alexander. The theory highlights the importance of the trauma in the shaping of contemporary Western collective identities. The central message of the theory is the avoidance of the “naturalism fallacy”, i.e. of such a vision of the trauma, which doesn’t differ seriously the fact of collective perception from the objective event. Following Alexander, sociologically valid way to explain collective trauma should focus on the symbolic mechanisms of the creating trauma, and is driven by such a notions as code, master narrative, drama, ritual, etc. The power of developed explanation is illustrated by numerous historical cases.
