The paper analyzes еру issues of teaching English for professional purposes for students of a research-intensive university. The author argues that academic literacy development seems to be a key factor in the context of professional language education. It is necessary to take into account the role of academic literacy while defi ning aims and goals of teaching English for professional purposes in a university. The paper aims at defi ning, analyzing the structure, key features and the role of academic literacy in the context of teaching English for specifi c purposes. The article looks into the issue of the integration of loan words appertaining to financial lexis into the Russian language. Due to an overwhelming number of borrowings in the professional vocabulary of bank workers, the prevalence of anglicisms over Russian words in their written and verbal speech cannot go unnoticed. However, given a generally low level of bank workers’ English language competence, this situation leads to peculiar, nonstandard adaptation of anglicisms at all language levels. Accordingly, the article presents the possible ways anglicisms integrate into the Russian language, and examines the native speakers’ attitude to borrowed words and their preferences in using anglicisms. Furthermore, the authors have identified the reasons why the speakers frequently resort to anglicisms and the degree of semantic awareness behind their choice. The most commonly-used borrowed terms have also been singled out.

Nowadays, Internet texts win the increasing popularity among the users, however, traditional methods of text linguistics aren't capable of revealing the many-sided nature and uniqueness of the given types of texts. Therefore introduction of new criteria of the analysis and estimation are necessary for fundamental analysis of the new phenomena in text linguistics which the new form of communication, the Internet, provides us with.

The paper analyzes interaction between locative markers and lexical meaning of the stem in Kuban Kabardian. In the case study of the semantic zone of falling we reveal different morphological patterns of marking spatial relationship between Trajector and Landmark. We hypothesize that morphological differences, on the one hand, arise from distinctions in lexical meanings, and, on the other hand, are due to gradual lexicalization of the locative markers.

The article deals with the first English version of Derzhavin's ode «God», belonging to John Bowring. The comparative analysis of the original and translation using the close-reading technique helps to single out the transformations of Derzhavin's text. The author also makes an attempt to explain the character of each transformation and to show the mechanism of intercultural reception of works of art.
