Despite being the object of a thriving field of clinical research, the investigation of intrinsic brain network alterations in psychiatric illnesses is still in its early days. Because the pathological alterations are predominantly probed using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), many questions about the electrophysiological bases of resting-state alterations in psychiatric disorders, particularly among mood disorder patients, remain unanswered. Alongside important research using electroencephalography (EEG), the specific recent contributions and future promise of magnetoencephalography (MEG) in this field are not fully recognized and valued. Here, we provide a critical review of recent findings from MEG resting-state connectivity within major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). The clinical MEG resting-state results are compared with those previously reported with fMRI and EEG. Taken together, MEG appears to be a promising but still critically underexploited technique to unravel the neurophysiological mechanisms that mediate abnormal (both hyper- and hypo-) connectivity patterns involved in MDD and BD. In particular, a major strength of MEG is its ability to provide source-space estimations of neuromagnetic long-range rhythmic synchronization at various frequencies (i.e., oscillatory coupling). The reviewed literature highlights the relevance of probing local and interregional rhythmic synchronization to explore the pathophysiological underpinnings of each disorder. However, before we can fully take advantage of MEG connectivity analyses in psychiatry, several limitations inherent to MEG connectivity analyses need to be understood and taken into account. Thus, we also discuss current methodological challenges and outline paths for future research. MEG resting-state studies provide an important window onto perturbed spontaneous oscillatory brain networks and hence supply an important complement to fMRI-based resting-state measurements in psychiatric populations.

Современная международная валютная система из-за ее недостатков требует кардинальных изменений. Поэтому, экономистами всего мира предлагаются варианты создания альтернативных международных валют, которые бы позволили международной валютной системе работать эффективнее. Важно, создавая новую международную валюту, анализировать и учитывать опыт всех предшествующих международных валют. Поэтому, в начале статьи, последовательно анализируются недостатки каждого варианта фактически существующей и существовавшей международной валюты.  Опираясь на проведенный анализ, обосновывается необходимость введения новой международной валютной единицы, и  задаются требования, которым она должна удовлетворять. Далее в работе предлагается альтернативный, теоретически возможный вариант международной валюты - валюта, привязанная к корзине товаров. На абстрактном примере определяется ее содержание и механизм обращения.

It has always been peculiar to evolutionists to compare social and biological evolution, the latter as visualized by Charles Darwin.1 But it also seems possible and correct to draw an analogy with another great discovery in the field of evolutionary biology, with the homologous series of Nikolay Vavilov (1921; 1927; 1967). However, there is no complete identity between cultural parallelism and biological homologous series. Vavilov studied the morphological homology, whereas our focus within the realm of social evolution is the functional one. No doubt, the morphological homomorphism also happens in the process of social evolution (e.g. in the Hawaii Islands where a type of the sociocultural organization surprisingly similar with the ones of other highly developed parts of Polynesia had independently formed by the end of the 18th century [Sahlins 1972/1958; Goldman 1970; Earle 1978]). But this topic is beyond the present paper’s problématique.

The  concept  of  Nature,  which  has  been  central  to  the  common comprehension  of  life  throughout  Russia’s  ancient  history,  has  never  been epistemologically neutral. It was clearly embedded in paganism and  its  underlying  values  and  canons.  What  is  significant  is  that  paganism’s essential  understanding  of  Nature  as  divine  has  been  radically  retailored  to achieve very divergent ends. The interpretation of Nature began to reflect the beliefs  not  of  the culture  as a whole but  of the few who  deemed  themselves responsible to institute a more advanced culture in place of the existing one. In particular, the process of man’s abstraction from Nature has been taking place through concrete historical events.

We consider a many-sorted variant of Japaridze’s polymodal provability logic (⁠GLP⁠). In this variant, which is denoted GLP∗⁠, propositional variables are assigned sorts n≤ω⁠, where variables of finite sort n<ω are interpreted as Π_{n+1}-sentences of the arithmetical hierarchy, while those of sort ω range over arbitrary ones. We prove that GLP∗is arithmetically complete with respect to this interpretation. Moreover, we relate GLP∗ to its one-sorted counterpart GLP and prove that the former inherits some well-known properties of the latter, like Craig interpolation and polynomial space (PSPACE) decidability. We also study a positive variant of GLP∗ that allows for an even richer arithmetical interpretation—variables are permitted to range over theories rather than single sentences. This interpretation in turn allows the introduction of a modality that corresponds to the full uniform reflection principle. We show that our positive variant of GLP∗ is arithmetically complete.

This paper analyzes a short-term interest rate model with mean and volatility driven by an unobserved Markov chain. There are two main innovations in the approach. Firstly, we allow the state generating process to be endogenous as opposed to most such studies which assume this is an exogenous process. This model captures the dynamics of the short-rate process successfully and conclusively performs better than a GARCH process. Secondly, we use heuristic arguments to determine the relationshi p between predictable policy, i.e. transparency and measures of openness and accountability on th e part of the Central Banks. In this sense this study is unusual in the literature on Markov switching applications to short rate, since we draw economic conclusions rather than simply analyzing econometric properties. Results suggest that the market generally anticipates rate changes one-period-ahead and that the move by Banks towards greater openness and accountability in policy may have contributed to this. Finally, a non-parametric statistic, the concordance measure, indicates the nature of the co- movement in regimes and finds evidence of similar levels and regimes of predictability across Anglophile countries.

Based on an interview with a hip-hop artist from Eastern Poland, this article critically assesses amateur art pro-duction proliferating throughout the globe today through individuals’ creative usages of new ICTs and new media affor-dances. The post-Fordist material and ideological context of contemporary social life is the main focus point of the article’s critique. Scarcity, dispossession, and entrepreneurship are the main analytical concepts used to develop a critical analysis and explanation of mainstream realities of amateur artistic production today. Within a context defined by precarious work conditions and prospects, material scarcity, and consumerist aspirations, media and technological potentialities are strategi-cally used by the amateur artist-entrepreneur a) as resources where creativity is put to work for potential socio-economic elevation and inclusion in the global industrial artistic scene (in the case of private ICT), b) as “free” resources, appropriated for entrepreneurial aspirations (in the case of “free“ digital material circulating online, particularly through peer to peer net-works), c) as channels for self promotion and networking (in the case of web 2.0 structures). What is often less apparent to the amateur artists, though, concerns the exploitative capacities of corporate Internet to dispossess amateur work and online social relations for the purposes of capital accumulation and reproduction. Unless critiqued, “free culture” -generated by new ICTs and new media- is assimilated by the material and ideological power of late capitalism and is “put to work” for the (re)production of late capitalism. The article concludes by suggesting the critical challenging of the mainstream artistic identity and the critical use and appropriation of new media/ ICT’s potentialities.

A US Federal election in which candidates from two major political parties compete for the votes of those undecided voters in a state who usually do not vote in US elections is considered. A mathematical model for evaluating the expectation of the margin of votes to be received from such voters by either candidate as a result of the election campaigns of all the competing candidates is proposed. On the basis of this model, finding the estimation under consideration is reducible to finding the minimum of the maximin function of the difference of two bilinear functions with one and the same first vector argument whose second vector arguments belong to a polyhedron of connected variables (strategies of the candidates), and this minimum is sought on another polyhedron.

We consider a problem of the astronaut training scheduling. Each astronaut has his own set of tasks which should be performed with respect to resource and time constraints. The problem is to determine start moments for all considered tasks. For this issue a mathematical model based on integer linear programming is proposed. Computational results of the implemented model and experiments on real data are presented.

Предложена общая континуальная модель среды, составленной механически активными клетками. Среда считается состоящей из трех фаз; собственно клеток, внеклеточной жидкости и дополнительной фазой, отвечающей за активное силовое взаимодействие между клетками, которая, в частности, может соответствовать системе протрузий, обеспечивающих развитие активных стягивающих усилий. Деформация среды, отождествляемая с деформацией клеточной фазы, состоит из двух составляющих: упругой деформации отдельных клеток и клеточных переупаковок. Упругая деформация связана с напряжением в клеточной фазе. Шаровая составляющая тензора напряжений описывает нелинейное сопротивление клеточной фазы, обеспечивающее невозможность ее слишком большого сжатия. Уравнение состояния для давления в клеточной фазе принято в виде нелинейной зависимости от объемной плотности клеток. Переупаковка клеток рассматривается как течение, управляемое напряжениями в клеточной фазе, активными напряжениями и давлением жидкости. Тензор активных напряжений полагается шаровым и нелокально зависящим от плотности клеток. В предположении медленности процесса деформирования биологической ткани получена редуцированная модель, в которой пренебрегается упругими деформациями клеток по сравнению с неупругими. Проведен дисперсионный анализ устойчивости пространственно-однородного стационарного решения. Среди параметров, отвечающих за потерю устойчивости, присутствует гидростатическое давление жидкости, возрастание которого приводит к неустойчивости за счет составляющей силы межфазного взаимодействия, обусловленной этим давлением. Полученная модель используется для описания процесса образования полости в первоначально однородном клеточном сфероиде. Исследована роль локального и нелокального механизмов развития активных напряжений при формировании полости.

To improve the reliability of data delivery, in Wi-Fi networks stations can reserve for their transmissions periodic time intervals of the same duration in which they are allowed to transmit, while adjacent stations do not have that right. Here there arises the problem of choosing the parameters of reserved intervals that would ensure quality of service requirements for transmitted data in the smallest possible amount of reserved channel time. We consider the data transmission process in periodic intervals with the block acknowledgement policy that lets us reduce the costs by acknowledgement the set of packets with a single service message. We propose a method for mathematical modeling of such a transmission.
