In their book, Carol Scott Leonard and David Pitt-Watson argue that there is a need to rethink the history of Russian privatisation and reform, particularly in the way it is portrayed in the West. Russia’s privatization beginning in 1992, after over forty years as the centre of an international command economy system, led to the understanding by 1995 that considerable success had been achieved in regime transformation. Why, afterwards, has it been so critically portrayed?
